Bridge Gaps
Construction trades for flooring contractors
Posted on: 09-03-2021 by Floor Covering Media

Flooring contractors: Is business slower than expected? Are you considering the possibility of expanding the services that your organization provides? Below are a number of construction trades; some may be a stretch for flooring contractors. Others, however, may be less so. You be the judge. What are the limitations of the services that your organization provides? Given your skill set, which of the following trades are realistically achievable and which aren't as viable? It's your decision. Below are a few alternatives:

Bell Hanger

Boiler Maker

Carpet Installer

Elevator Mechanic

Heavy Equipment Operator

HVAC Technician

Insulation Installer

Iron Worker

Pile Driver

Pipe Fitter

Sheet Metal Worker

Sign Display Worker

Steel Fixer

Each skill requires an education and training. Focus on one skill at a time. Otherwise, it's overwhelming. As with most types of skill development, there is a gradual progression through the ranks. It begins with pre-apprentice and graduates to apprentice, to journeyman, to post-journeyman, to leadman, to foreman and ideally to superintendent. Have the time? Are you so inclined? Or are you pressed for time? Depending on your situation, you can choose to specialize in one area of expertise or learn many skills. It's your decision.
