Holiday gift idea

While DVD's make great holiday gifts, the selection of them at brick and mortar stores is diminishing for some reason. Obviously, they are still available but not in the abundance that they were about a decade ago. Behind the scenes, there must be a reason for displaying a smaller selection of DVD's in retail stores, which is not entirely clear to consumers. What is it?

Is it the rising cost of renting retail shelf space at the brick and mortar stores? Is it the innovation of streaming services? Is it a combination of the above or neither? Why buy DVD's if you can stream movies at home or as you travel? Why worry about scratching the disc? It's so much easier to stream a movie directly to your device(s). Streaming makes more sense than buying DVD's!

It seems as though there are a number of compelling reasons to abandon DVD's as an antiquated technology with the advent of streaming services. Though DVD's continue to survive, unlike the way that Betamax and VHS tapes quietly surrendered and were phased out after the innovation of DVD's, which show few if any signs of surrendering to Blue Ray, UHD and Streaming. Why is it that DVD's remain exceptionally resilient to modern technological innovations that are obviously more convenient and considerably less costly?

Apparently, there is a strong demand for DVD's, even used DVD's, within this competitive market segment. Yet, in spite of this unwavering demand, the brick and mortar stores, especially the national chains, are reducing the shelf space allocated for DVD's. As a result, disappointed shoppers are turning away from the brick and mortar stores and taking their business elsewhere.

As the holiday season rapidly approaches, shoppers are turning to the ecommerce websites that sell a variety of DVD's. We've spent some time over the past few months assembling a comprehensive list of websites in time for the holiday shopping season. One or more of these alphabetically listed websites should have most if not all the DVD's on your holiday shopping list.

While some of the DVD stores may specialize in selling DVD's exclusively, most of these suppliers offer a broad range of products, including DVD's. Some sell Amrays (regular DVD's) and Blurays (HD DVD's). Others for unspecified reasons limit their offerings to Blurays (HD DVD's). Some offer free worldwide delivery. However, most of them do include a delivery charge.

Make inquiries about any delivery fees (some offer free worldwide delivery), payment methods (there are a few of them) and delivery area restrictions (some limit delivery areas to specific locations). Read the supplier notes (in parentheses), which might be useful. Remember, these links don't redirect your browser to the suppliers directly for a specific reason.
