Surface safety precautions
Posted on: 03-29-2020 by Floor Covering Media

A few suggestions for safer surfaces: Focus on the entrances and exits.

Another area of interest are surface transitions; where the type of flooring changes. Mats are useful for the handicapped, individuals recovering from temporary injuries or anyone challenged to traverse transitional surfaces.

Inspect the facilities. Identify any surface hazards. Deny access to any areas of concern. Place clear warning signage. Proactive measures may prevent injuries until there's time to effect repairs; try to sqeeze the repair costs into the budget.

Assess cleaning methods. Look for slippery walking surfaces. Inspect the tools and devices used to clean your flooring.

Remember: Be prepared. The devil is in the details. The risk of an incident is likely to rise as dirt, ice, mud, and snow make their way into the facilities.

Inspect interior and exterior surfaces. Lots entranceways and walkways must be cleared of dirt, ice, mud and snow. Have an arsenal of wepons to combat the elements: brooms, mops, shovels, floor-level fans, absorbent matting and ice melt must be easily accessible for staff.

Weather the storm. Preventative maintenance is likely to prolong the life of your floors, which might reduce expensive replacement and resurfacing costs. Affordable costs. Proactive measures. Small changes. Big difference.
